This map comes from the war diary of the French 129th Infantry Division. This division was tasked with the capture of Méry, in cooperation with Groupement X consisting of three batteries of Schneider tanks. The red, blue, and green blobs relate to the infantry regiments. The starting positions are centre left; the objectives are top right. The objectives include Méry and the line between Méry and Courcelles, which corresponds to the line of German infantry companies in the sketch map here. From this map, it is clear to see that the French infantry were not tasked with a deeper penetration into the German lines. The French counter-attack had been organised very quickly and there was not enough time to coordinate the infantry and tanks fully, hence the problem of tanks trying to advance further without infantry support. The German artillery batteries that took down the Schneiders were off-map top-right.
